Role Overview
In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy AI/ML solutions from classical ML to LLM/RAG pipelines and integrate them into scalable backend systems used in production by global clients. You will collaborate with OR scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to build reliable, high-performance AI components that augment our scheduling, forecasting, and decision-support products.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building AI systems end-to-end: data → models → infrastructure → production.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, train, evaluate, and deploy ML and GenAI models (classical ML, deep learning, LLMs, RAG systems) for forecasting, classification, anomaly detection, and decision support.
- Build backend services and APIs that integrate ML models into Optym’s optimization platforms.
- Implement scalable infrastructure for model serving, inference pipelines, and workflow orchestration (CI/CD for ML systems).
- Design and maintain data pipelines for feature engineering, preprocessing, and real-time/near-real-time model inputs.
- Collaborate with OR scientists to combine ML models with optimization logic and domain constraints.
- Optimize performance, latency, and cost of ML workloads across compute, storage, and networking layers.
- Establish frameworks for model evaluation, monitoring, retraining, and reliability (data-first and evaluation-first mindset).
- Contribute to internal best practices, reusable AI components, tooling, and MLOps workflows.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous integration/deployment processes.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 2-5+ years of experience in building AI/ML or data-driven software systems.
- Strong programming experience in Python (or C# for backend components).
- Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and modern GenAI tooling (e.g., HuggingFace, LLM serving stacks, RAG frameworks).
- Familiarity with backend development: APIs (FastAPI, Flask), microservices, distributed systems, data serialization, testing, etc.
- Experience with ML infrastructure and toolchains: MLflow, Ray, Airflow, Kubernetes, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), containerization.
- Strong foundation in software engineering best practices (modular design, profiling, packaging, CI/CD).
- Solid understanding of ML evaluation, dataset curation, feature engineering, and model monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating ML and optimization/OR-based algorithms.
- Experience with large-scale training or inference pipelines, vector databases, or embedding systems (FAISS, Weaviate, Chroma).
- Knowledge of LLM concepts like context windows, KV cache behavior, fine-tuning, and RAG optimization.
- Contributions to AI/ML infrastructure or open-source tools.
- Experience in airline, logistics, transportation, or scheduling domains is a strong plus.
Why Join Optym
- Work on high-impact problems for global clients.
- Collaborate with world-class experts in optimization and AI.
- Opportunity to see your algorithms deployed at scale in real operations.
- Innovative culture, flexible environment, and strong growth potential.
