Join Micron's SMAI Engineering Tool Development group — a cross-disciplinary team dedicated to developing cutting edge software solutions that power the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing. Our mission is to build intelligent, scalable tools that enable precision automation, image based process control, and analytics for advanced manufacturing technologies.
This team partners closely with process engineers, data scientists, and manufacturing technology experts to solve some of the most challenging problems at the intersection of semiconductors, imaging, and software engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support applications that enable image processing, inspection automation, and data driven decision making for advanced manufacturing.
- Work closely with process engineering, equipment teams, and SMAI partners to understand requirements and translate them into robust software solutions.
- Design, document, build, and test software components and services across the full stack.
- Analyze and resolve system issues, including image quality challenges, algorithm behavior, and performance bottlenecks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on software quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with multifunctional teams on integration, end-to-end testing, deployment, and user enablement.

- Leverage generative AI and modern development tools to accelerate development cycles.
- Participate in a 24/7 on call standby rotation to provide Level 3 (L3) operational support for Manufacturing SMAI applications owned by the team, including support during Emergency Response Team (ERT) activations and Priority 1 / Priority 2 (P1/P2) incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (graduating or recently graduated)
- Strong foundation in:
- Object oriented programming (C#, Python, Java, or similar).
- Algorithms, data structures, and software design fundamentals.
- Basic databases (SQL or NoSQL).
- Exposure to or interest in:
- Image processing, computer vision, or machine learning concepts.
- Front end frameworks (Angular/React/etc.) or TypeScript/JavaScript.
- RESTful APIs and backend development.
- Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.
- Solid communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Knowledge of Git, CI/CD tools, or agile work tracking systems.
- Understanding of basic semiconductor or manufacturing concepts.
- Experience with AI assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.).
