The Opportunity
Seeking a Data Scientist to operate at the intersection of underwriting, product, and business strategy. This role owns problems end-to-end—from data exploration through model development to business adoption. You will work cross-functionally with underwriting, product, operations, and leadership, delivering insights and models that drive pricing, growth, and portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Risk Analytics
- Analyze submission, quote, and bind data to uncover trends in hit ratios, declinations, and appetite alignment
- Support pricing strategy and rate adequacy analysis using exposure-based loss data
- Partner with actuarial and carrier stakeholders on portfolio performance insights
Product & Growth Analytics
- Build funnel analytics, conversion models, and cohort analyses to support distribution and product strategy
- Develop LTV, retention, and churn models to inform renewal and growth initiatives
- Evaluate partner performance to identify cross-sell opportunities and optimize capacity allocation
Data & Platform Enablement
- Collaborate with engineering and IT to develop scalable data pipelines across policy, claims, and third-party data sources
- Maintain data quality, governance, and documentation standards
- Contribute to the evolution of the data warehouse and analytics ecosystem
Reporting & Insights Delivery
- Design dashboards and self-service reporting tools to provide real-time visibility into business KPIs
- Translate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Support external reporting to carrier and capacity partners with a focus on accuracy and consistency
Qualifications
- Experience in data science, analytics, or quantitative research
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for statistical modeling and analysis
- Advanced SQL skills with experience working across large, complex datasets
- Track record of deploying models into production environments, including monitoring and documentation
- Experience building data products that integrate directly into business workflows
Nice to Have Competencies
- Background in P&C insurance (carrier, MGA, broker, or insurtech) strongly preferred
- Understanding of core insurance concepts (e.g., premium, loss ratio, combined ratio, policy lifecycle)
- Exposure to AI/ML applications in insurance, including LLMs, document processing, or underwriting automation
- Experience in MGA or program business environments (bordereaux reporting, policy admin systems, carrier data requirements)

Compensation Range: $115,000 - $130,000
