Research Scientist (Physics) – AI-Driven Scientific Discovery
Overview
We’re partnering with a well-funded, early-stage research company building advanced AI systems to accelerate scientific discovery. The team includes researchers and engineers from top-tier academic and industry backgrounds, focused on applying AI to complex physical systems.
The Role
This is an applied research role at the intersection of physics and AI. You will translate open-ended physics problems into structured, machine-verifiable tasks that AI systems can explore and evaluate. The work is hands-on and focused on building real systems, not just theory.
What You’ll Do
- Convert complex physics problems into scalable, testable tasks for AI systems
- Design evaluation frameworks across multiple areas of physics
- Build verification systems that enforce physical validity such as conservation laws and experimental constraints
- Integrate simulation environments into AI workflows and develop meaningful benchmarks
- Collaborate closely with ML researchers and engineers on system design and training approaches
- Write production-level code supporting large-scale experimentation and discover.
What We’re Looking For
Background
- PhD in Physics or a closely related field
- Strong expertise in at least one core area of physics
- Experience working on technically challenging research problems
Technical Skills
- Strong programming skills in Python and or C++
- Experience with computational physics, simulations, or numerical methods
- Familiarity with scientific computing tools or simulation frameworks
Nice to Have
- Exposure to machine learning applied to physical systems
- Experience with modeling, optimization, or building evaluation frameworks
- Interest in bridging research and real-world system building
