Hudson Gate Partners has been retained to find the first Data Scientist/AI Engineer for an Austin-based private equity firm that has been around for two decades focused on growing medium sized companies in the industries of manufacturing, distribution, and business service companies.
This hire will own the identification and lead the development of internal projects for the firm with a focus on enhanced and AI-powered automation workflows for advanced investment intelligence, deal operations, due diligence, reporting and portfolio monitoring. In addition, this hire will be the go-to Data Science and AI/ML Engineering resource for the firm's partner companies, helping them navigate and execute various AI and automation strategies to enhance business.
The ideal candidate is technically capable, financially literate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment. They will engage directly with partners and senior professionals, understand business context of both the firm's needs and the portfolio companies, and translate operational needs into working solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Workflow Discovery & Prioritization
- Conduct structured interviews with deal teams, finance, and operations staff to document current workflows
- Identify and rank automation opportunities by effort, impact, and feasibility
- Develop and maintain a rolling roadmap of automation projects
Automation Development & Deployment
- Design and build automation workflows using no-code/low-code platforms
- Deploy integrations between firm systems
- Implement LLM-based solutions for document review, summarization, and data extraction
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting automations for portfolio monitoring and LP communications
- Automate deal sourcing, screening, and scoring workflows
- Build market research and competitor analysis pipelines
Systems Integration
- Connect disparate platforms and data sources through APIs and automation middleware
- Maintain data integrity and security standards across all integrations
- Ensure all automations comply with firm data handling and confidentiality policies
Maintenance & Iteration
- Monitor deployed automations for performance, errors, and reliability
- Update and improve workflows as firm needs or tools evolve
- Maintain clear technical documentation for all active automations
AI Enablement
- Train internal staff staff and external partners on how to use and interact with new tools and automated workflows
- Identify and support opportunities/projects to use AI and machine learning to create efficiency within partner companies.
- Act as the internal point of contact for all AI and automation questions
- Provide regular updates to leadership on project status and measured efficiency gains during due-diligence processes to define/scope opportunities for AI/Automation that exist with new partner companies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of prior experience in consulting, private equity, venture capital, investment banking, or asset management
- Working knowledge of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines
- Experience with Agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar)
- Basic cloud infrastructure knowledge (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Both a strong technical background as well as an understanding of business process improvement and optimization strategies
