The NVIDIA Linux for Tegra (L4T) team is looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Software Engineer with strong expertise in OpenEmbedded and Yocto build systems. In this role, you’ll build and optimize the embedded Linux stack that powers NVIDIA’s Tegra platforms across robotics and AI edge applications. You’ll collaborate with world-class hardware and software engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance Linux solutions for next-generation SoCs.
What you'll be doing:
Develop, maintain, and improve Yocto/OpenEmbedded layers for Tegra-based Linux distributions.
Integrate bootloaders, kernels, drivers, and user-space packages into production-quality BSP releases.
Work together with international multifunctional groups to support new features in embedded Linux.
Improve build infrastructure, CI workflows, and release automation for scale and reliability.
Troubleshoot and resolve system bring-up issues, build failures, and runtime performance bottlenecks.
Contribute to open-source communities and ensure compliance with licensing and software standards.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidelines guidance within the embedded software team.
What we need to see:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Over 12+ years of experience in embedded Linux development, concentrating on BSPs and system software.
Strong hands-on experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded build systems, recipe/layer management, and debugging.
Deep understanding of ARM-based SoCs, boot processes, device trees, kernel configuration, and system bring-up.
Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and shell scripting; strong grasp of build tools such as bitbake and make.
Experience with cross-compilation, root filesystem customization, and embedded debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, GDB, serial console).
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills in cross-functional, distributed teams.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
Direct experience with NVIDIA Jetson or Tegra platforms.
Active open-source contributions to Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, or similar ecosystems.
Familiarity with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitLab CI) for embedded builds.
Knowledge of containerization, secure boot, or OTA updates in embedded environments.
