About The Role
We’re looking for a Scientist on the Biologics Research team to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, you’ll work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists focused on the design, engineering, and preclinical characterization of ground-breaking biotherapeutics. Specifically, you will help lead engineering and optimization campaigns for a diverse array of biomolecular scaffolds including binding and targeting moieties, signaling molecules, enzymes, and biological drug delivery platforms.
What You'll Do
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Driving biomolecular engineering efforts within Insmed research projects, including strategy and methods development
- Construct recombinant systems encoding protein variants and combinatorial protein libraries
- Conceptualize, construct, qualify, and implement high throughput screening platforms to enable candidate selection from large panels and/or combinatorial libraries of engineered protein variants
- Conduct precision protein engineering to achieve specified design objectives, working both independently and in collaboration with computational biologists
- Devise, optimize, and employ tailored protein expression and purification strategies for drug discovery programs
- Develop, qualify, and deploy quantitative functional assays to characterize protein performance in vitro, and assess therapeutic candidate performance using in-vivo models
- Contribute to collaborative prioritization and decision making on prospective discovery and development programs
- Participating in cross-disciplinary mentoring and training within the RDL team
- Present scientific results to the RDL team, Insmed research department, and external scientific community, as needed
- Assist with coordination and day-to-day management of RDL site operations

- Recombinant protein expression and purification
- Routine protein characterization methods including but not limited to spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, western blot, ELISA
- Protein-protein binding analysis
- Experimental methods development, including experimental design, execution, and evaluation
- PCR, molecular cloning, Cell culture (microbial and tissue culture), protein chromatography, BLI/SPR, ELISA, enzyme kinetics, electrophoresis, flow cytometry, spectroscopy, fluorimetry, etc.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
