Role: Staff Computer Vision & Machine Learning Engineer
Location: Austin
Salary: $200,000 (Negotiable D.O.E) + Equity
About the Opportunity
We're working with an emerging robotics organization developing autonomous systems designed to protect against modern airborne threats. Their platform combines high-speed perception, on-device intelligence, and tightly integrated hardware/software controls to identify and intercept small UAVs in real time.
The company operates with a deep engineering focus and is building a team of senior contributors who can influence architectural decisions, drive innovation, and help transform early-stage prototypes into deployable field systems.
Role Overview
This senior-level position centers on building the perception and machine intelligence stack for an autonomous counter-UAS platform. You’ll be responsible for designing robust computer vision pipelines, creating optimized ML models for low-latency environments, and ensuring seamless integration with custom hardware.
Primary Responsibilities
- Architect and refine real-time perception algorithms for detecting, tracking, and classifying airborne objects.
- Develop ML models that maintain performance under strict compute, latency, and reliability constraints.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to integrate vision pipelines into embedded architectures.
- Design test methodologies, evaluate performance across varied operational environments, and iterate toward greater resiliency.
- Provide technical leadership to less-experienced engineers and contribute to long-term ML/CV strategy.
- Support the evolution of early concept systems into ruggedized, mission-ready products.
Required Background
- Strong enthusiasm for robotics, autonomy, and applied machine learning.
- Graduate-level degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field with emphasis on ML/CV.
- 9+ years of hands-on experience developing machine-learning-driven computer vision solutions.
- Experience shipping vision systems for real-time, autonomous, or safety-critical applications.
- Proficiency in Python and C++, along with experience using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar ML toolchains.
- Experience deploying ML/CV algorithms onto embedded targets or specialized accelerators.
- Familiarity with sensing modalities such as optical cameras, LiDAR, and/or radar, and their integration into autonomy stacks.
- Collaborative mindset with a desire to guide teammates and tackle complex engineering problems.
