AI Engineer - Defense AI Startup - $250k +Equity
A $12M-backed AI startup is building something hard: an AI-native ERP, from scratch, for defense manufacturing. Not bolting ChatGPT onto a legacy system — actually building the brain. Multi-agent orchestration, agentic workflows, RAG, evals, the real stuff.
You'd join an early team (~15 people) and work on the critical path alongside the founding engineers. High trust, high ownership, immediate impact.
What you'll do
- Build the LLM orchestration layer using multi-agent frameworks
- Design agentic workflows that track state, propose actions, and complete multi-step tasks
- Build structured prompting systems — function-calling, memory, safety constraints
- Work with RAG, embeddings, and retrieval infrastructure
- Evaluate and integrate emerging agent frameworks
What we're looking for
- 3–5+ years in Python backend + production AI/LLM systems
- Hands-on with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, Strands)
- Experience shipping AI products from prototype to production
- Comfortable in a small, fast-moving startup
- Bonus: ERP, manufacturing, or defense tech background
Logistics
- $160K–$250K base + equity
- Hybrid: San Diego (3 days/week), or Bay Area/LA flying in one week per month
- US citizen or green card holder only (ITAR)
