About NCS
National Carwash Solutions (NCS) is one of the largest providers of car wash equipment, parts, chemicals, and service in North America, founded in 1973 and headquartered in Grimes, Iowa. NCS is building an enterprise AI capability from the ground up, with Anthropic’s Claude as the foundation of our automation strategy. The IT organization owns the core data and operational platforms — Databricks, NetSuite, Salesforce, Boomi, Tableau, Freshservice, UKG, and our enterprise Claude deployment — that power finance, operations, sales, manufacturing, and field service across the business.
Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship by NCS. Applicants who require sponsorship cannot be considered for this position.
About the Role
We’re looking for an AI Engineer to take hands-on ownership of Claude-based agent development and enterprise workflow automation — connecting our AI layer to the systems and data that power NCS. This is a builder role. The right candidate is comfortable working directly with LLM APIs, designing agentic systems and integration patterns, and shipping automations that reduce manual work across the organization. You’ll work closely with the IT Manager for Data & AI Enablement and collaborate across data engineering, Salesforce, NetSuite, and IT operations teams.
This is a growing team. The AI Engineer will operate end-to-end: scoping problems with the business, prototyping with Claude, productionizing with the appropriate APIs and integrations, and iterating based on user feedback. Success in this role means measurable reduction in manual effort, faster decision cycles, and broad adoption of AI capabilities across NCS.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy Claude-based AI agents and automations that solve real business problems across IT, HR, finance, operations, manufacturing, and commercial functions.
- Build agentic workflows using the Anthropic Claude Developer Platform / API, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Skills, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Architect and implement integrations between Claude and enterprise systems including NetSuite, Salesforce, Databricks, Freshservice, UKG, SharePoint, and Boomi via REST APIs, MCP servers, and middleware.
- Develop and maintain reusable AI components — Claude Skills, prompt libraries, evaluation harnesses, and agent templates — that scale AI usage across the organization.
- Develop and maintain structured enterprise knowledge content in SharePoint and other repositories to support AI agent accuracy and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns.
- Implement appropriate safety, governance, and observability controls for AI systems, including prompt evaluation, output validation, audit logging, and cost monitoring.
- Monitor agent performance, analyze usage and conversation data, and continuously improve resolution rates, accuracy, and user experience.
- Partner with business stakeholders across departments to identify high-value automation opportunities, define success metrics, and translate requirements into working AI solutions.
- Define and document standards for agent architecture, prompt engineering, integration patterns, and knowledge management to ensure long-term scalability.
- Stay current on developments in the Anthropic Claude ecosystem and adjacent AI tooling — and bring relevant capabilities back to NCS.
- Troubleshoot issues across the AI/automation stack, manage platform updates, and support incident response for production AI workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a technical role involving API development, system integrations, automation engineering, or AI/ML application development, with at least 1 year of hands-on work building LLM-powered applications, agents, or automated workflows.
- Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs — Anthropic Claude strongly preferred; OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or equivalent acceptable.
- Strong proficiency with REST APIs and the ability to design and build integrations between SaaS platforms independently.
- Demonstrated ability to write and maintain code in Python (preferred), JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar to support integrations and agentic workflows.
- Familiarity with enterprise systems such as ERP platforms (NetSuite), CRM (Salesforce), ITSM tools (Freshservice, ServiceNow), or HRIS platforms (UKG).
- Experience structuring and managing enterprise knowledge bases or documentation systems for AI consumption.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate agent performance and translate findings into improvements.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and source control (Git/GitHub).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills — comfortable working with both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with the Anthropic Claude API or building production Claude-based agents, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Skills, or MCP-based integrations.
- Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns, vector search, and embedding workflows.
- Experience with agentic system design, tool use / function calling, and multi-step reasoning workflows.
- Hands-on experience with any of NCS’s core systems: NetSuite, Salesforce, Databricks, Freshservice, UKG, or Boomi.
- Experience with iPaaS tools (Boomi, Workato, MuleSoft) for managing integrations at scale.
- Experience implementing AI evaluation frameworks, prompt testing, or LLM observability tooling.
- Background in IT service management (ITSM), IT operations, or enterprise IT.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, distribution, services, or other non-pure-tech enterprise environment.
