Summary:
As the Vice President, Ads Quality Engineering, you will spearhead our AIML engineering division, dedicated to leveraging data machine learning innovations, and the vanguard of AI to enhance Pinterest's ads delivery funnel. Possessing robust analytical skills, a deep understanding of machine learning and generative AI, online auction dynamics, and previous experience leading substantial engineering teams, you will push the boundaries of current AIML applications, multi-party marketplace behavior, and auction theory. Your efforts will be crucial in maximizing Pinterest's monetization opportunities.
This pivotal role grants you the autonomy to collaborate extensively across the organization, aligning interests and strategies among pinners, content creators, and advertisers in our distinct marketplace. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping advanced ML solutions that not only define industry standards but also drive substantial business impact.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee a globally distributed team of 200+ AI/ML engineers tasked with harnessing data-driven insights and developing solutions to bolster Pinterest’s monetization efforts.
- Provide both technical and organizational leadership to scale the team in response to evolving business demands.
- Manage and develop senior leadership within the team, including managers of managers and principal AI/ML experts, ensuring growth and continuous improvement at all levels.
- Partner closely with engineering and product leadership to shape and drive the execution of Pinterest's monetization strategy.
- Foster strong cross-functional (XFN) collaborations across multiple departments, including Sales, Business Operations, Data Engineering, and Core Services, to ensure cohesive efforts and optimal outcomes in monetization strategies.
What we’re looking for:
- An MSc or PhD degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience, demonstrating a depth of technical proficiency and leadership.
- At least 10 years of experience in managerial roles, with a proven track record of effective team leadership and development.
- Exceptional cross-functional (XFN) collaboration skills and a strong capability in communication, crucial for liaising seamlessly across departments.
- A natural bridge-builder, skilled in fostering alignment and driving strategic initiatives within the engineering and product organization at Pinterest.
- Hands-on experience in designing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems, with a preference for those possessing specific expertise in the Advertising domain.
- Strong analytical abilities, underpinned by a solid foundation in mathematical and statistical models, enabling sophisticated problem-solving and innovation.

We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration once or twice a week and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from one of the following offices: Palo Alto, San Francisco, Seattle, or Los Angeles.
