The company is experiencing significant growth and is now recruiting a Research Scientist – focused on materials R&D, chemical innovation and process development. You will play a key role in developing and scaling novel chemical technologies, designing and executing experiments, and generating high-quality data to support both internal R&D and external projects.
Materials Scientist responsibilities
Research & Development
- Design and execute structured experimental programmes with clear objectives
- Generate, analyse and interpret data using appropriate analytical and statistical tools
- Contribute to the development of new research directions and innovative concepts
Materials Chemistry & Analysis
- Apply knowledge of chemical and materials systems to support recycling and process innovation
- Utilise analytical techniques (e.g. spectroscopic, thermal, chromatographic methods)
- Support development of robust methodologies for data capture and validation
Innovation & IP Development
- Contribute to the generation and documentation of intellectual property
- Support the development of scalable solutions aligned with business objectives
Research Scientist requirements
- Degree qualification (ideally PhD level) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field
- Strong understanding of experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
- Experience with analytical techniques (e.g. spectroscopy, thermal analysis, chromatography)
- Knowledge of laboratory safety, risk assessments and standard procedures
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Desirable:
- Experience with composite materials or advanced polymers
- Familiarity with materials testing methods (e.g. mechanical or surface analysis techniques)
- Experience in applied or industrial R&D environments
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) or advanced data analysis
- Understanding of sustainability metrics, LCA or techno-economic analysis
- Experience supporting scale-up from laboratory to pilot scale
