AI Engineer – Agentic Systems | Financial Services | Manhattan $250,000+ | Early-Stage Startup | 4 Days Onsite
We are partnering exclusively with a revenue-generating AI startup to place an exceptional AI Engineer in one of their most critical early hires.
Our client builds AI agents that automate workflows for some of the world's largest financial services firms, with senior leadership sponsorship already in place. The company has real traction in a $1T+ market and is scaling fast.
This is an early hire role. The successful candidate will work directly with the founding team, own key technical decisions from day one, and help define the engineering culture and technical architecture of a platform that is already generating revenue.
Responsibilities
Design and deploy LLM-powered agents and RAG systems that automate complex credit and lending workflows. Architect and maintain production-grade backend infrastructure, APIs, and data integrations. Partner directly with senior stakeholders at major financial firms to co-develop AI solutions tied to measurable ROI. Lead evaluation and optimization cycles across accuracy, latency, cost, and explainability. Build reusable agent deployment infrastructure and contribute to long-term platform architecture.
Requirements
5 to 10 years of software engineering experience with hands-on production experience building LLM agents and/or RAG systems. Strong Python skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks. Proficiency with cloud infrastructure, GCP preferred, and API design. Demonstrated experience logging, evaluating, and optimizing AI applications. Strong communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
Desirable
Background in financial services, risk modeling, or decision automation. Experience with human-in-the-loop systems or long-horizon agentic tasks. Familiarity with PydanticAI, LlamaIndex, Google ADK, or similar frameworks. Prior experience building or contributing to an internal AI platform or reusable LLM tooling.
Compensation and Location
$250,000+ base salary depending on experience, with early hire equity. Based in Manhattan, New York with four days per week in office.
