This position is that of a Senior Software Engineer to join Twilio’s Messaging Compliance Onboarding team. Programmable Messaging is Twilio’s biggest product. To keep pace with the evolving messaging compliance ecosystem, we need strong engineers that can create innovative solutions to ensure compliance with Twilio partners. The team ensures Twilio customers are registered and onboard seamlessly to various compliance programs to be able to send messages successfully. As an engineer on the team you will be responsible to build and maintain such compliance programs across US local, Tollfree and other sender types, and also across different geographies directly impacting a wide range of messaging customers.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Build and maintain multiple compliance program workflows, carrier/ecosystem integrations and customer interactions in the Compliance domain.
- Design and develop elegant and scalable solutions across a wide variety of compliance program types including frontend UI experiences and backend APIs, that are highly available and responsive. You will work through ambiguity, deliver quickly and with a high quality.
- Build towards achieving the next generation of architecture vision that empowers expansion of Compliance programs.
- Interact cross functionally across engineering teams within Twilio to align and build the product and architecture vision.

*Required:
- 3+ years of experience and a strong fundamental knowledge of software development using JVM languages.
- Experience building web services incorporating best practices for external systems integration, including defensive and hardened approaches to mitigate downstream issues.
- Experience working with highly scalable APIs, high volume data pipelines and large distributed systems.
- Maintaining and operating cloud services.
- An unwillingness to settle for “good enough”, instead staying focused on longevity through well-tested code and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated commitment to seeking diverse viewpoints and acting with intention to create an inclusive team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write down and present designs and decisions throughout the development lifecycle, collaborating with engineering and non-engineering roles.
Desired:
- 5+ years of Engineering experience, developing and maintaining high traffic services.
- Familiarity with DynamoDB, SQS, and data integration services like AWS glue
- Familiarity with LLMs, prompt optimizations to improve model accuracy, setting up evaluation pipelines
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Temporal or similar workflow orchestration
- Experience working with frontend libraries like React or similar.
Location
This role will be remote,but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.
Travel
We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

Compensation
*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.
The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $138,700 - $173,400
- Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $146,800 - $183,600
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $163,100 - $203,900.
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location..
