About the Team
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
The social media team’s ethos is to support OpenAI's mission and goals by clearly and authentically explaining our technology, values, and approach to safely building powerful AI. Our team is passionate about educating others, and are focused on community engagement — creating pathways for people to help shape the future of AI and educating them about important technological developments that will impact their lives. The purpose of social media is different here. We’re not focused on followers or likes; we’re focused on meeting people where they are at—both helping them with access to resources and tools they need to be successful in a world that’s rapidly changing, and staying attuned to their questions and concerns.
About the Role
As Social Media Analyst, Rapid Response you will be responsible for continuous monitoring of social and media platforms for OpenAI and senior executive mentions, emerging narratives, and reputational risk.
This role is designed for someone who is very online, deeply fluent in the dynamics of modern social platforms, and capable of identifying signals early — often before issues reach mainstream awareness. The Social Media Analyst will sit on our social media team within marketing and work closely with our strategic response team in communications.
You will play a critical role in ensuring leadership has confidence that emerging issues are being identified and evaluated in real time. Your primary responsibility will be signal detection, narrative analysis, and escalation judgment, not drafting responses. You will translate high-volume online conversation into clear insight for internal stakeholders, helping the organization understand what is happening, how quickly narratives are evolving, and whether escalation is required.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Real-time monitoring
Continuously monitor social platforms, forums, influential voices, and media for OpenAI, our product suite, and senior executive mentions
Track emerging narratives, coordinated campaigns, and reputational risk signals across online ecosystems
Maintain situational awareness across major platforms including X, Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging channels
Signal detection and narrative analysis
Identify early signals that may develop into reputational or policy issues
Assess narrative velocity, amplification patterns, and potential impact across platforms
Distinguish between organic conversation, coordinated campaigns, and algorithmically amplified narratives
Insights and internal intelligence
Translate noisy, fast-moving online conversations into concise insights then produce short internal briefs, alerts, and summaries that enable shared situational awareness across teams
Surface patterns and recurring narratives that may require proactive response or narrative strategy
Escalation and coordination
Flag emerging issues to the Strategic Response team with clear context, risk assessment, and recommended next steps
Track narrative evolution during active issues and identify inflection points requiring leadership awareness
Ensure executives and partners have visibility in real time
Analytical monitoring
Develop dashboards and analytical views of social conversation, narrative clusters, and sentiment shifts
Generate periodic insights about ongoing conversations and trends
Operational improvement
Contribute to the development of monitoring playbooks, escalation thresholds, and issue classification frameworks
Support post-incident reviews and lessons learned to improve detection and response systems
You might thrive in this role if you:
Are deeply fluent in social media ecosystems and online discourse dynamics
Spend significant time monitoring and understanding how narratives move across platforms
Have strong platform literacy across major social networks and digital communities
Have experience in social listening, media monitoring, intelligence analysis, or issues management
Are analytically sharp and able to separate signal from noise in high-volume information environments
Understand how narratives spread, accelerate, and influence perception online
Have strong judgment about when something matters and how to present information to executives
Prefer analysis, monitoring, and synthesis over creative editorial or community engagement on social
Are comfortable operating in high-velocity environments where decisions must be made quickly
