About the Team
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
Our Communications team includes External Communications, Internal Communications, and other strategic communications functions. This team’s ethos is to support OpenAI's mission and goals by clearly and authentically explaining our technology, values, and approach to safely building powerful AI.
About the Role
Executive communications help OpenAI’s leaders show up clearly, credibly, and consistently in moments that matter. We’re looking for an Executive Communications Manager to support senior executives, working closely with the Executive Communications Lead to translate complex technical, product, and policy topics into clear, human, trusted communications for global audiences.
This is an individual contributor role with significant ownership and visibility. It is deeply hands-on and execution-oriented, with no direct people management. A meaningful part of the job is owning executive social media day to day—drafting, publishing, monitoring, and iterating in real time—alongside broader executive communications work across talking points, briefings, and public moments.
This role requires exceptional judgment and discretion. You will often operate with incomplete information, tight timelines, and high visibility. You will work closely with leadership and cross-functional partners across product, research, policy, legal, marketing, and communications, and should be comfortable building trust with senior stakeholders in fast-moving environments.
In this role, you will:
Partner with senior executives to develop and execute external and internal communications strategies
Shape executive narratives across priority themes and drive multi-channel execution across media, podcasts, social, events, and owned channels
Draft high-impact materials including talking points, social posts, and briefing documents
Own end-to-end executive social execution across platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads), including drafting, publishing, monitoring, and real-time iteration
Exercise sound judgment in fast-moving news cycles, including when to engage, when to pause, and when to escalate
Prepare executives for high-visibility moments across media, events, and digital platforms
Anticipate upcoming moments and proactively identify opportunities for executive engagement with key audiences
Maintain a strong working understanding of OpenAI’s products, roadmap, and the broader AI landscape to inform credible communications
You might thrive in this role if you bring:
Approximately 7 years of experience in communications, technology communications, social media, or related roles
Direct experience owning and running executive or talent social media accounts, not just advising on strategy (experience with tools like Sprout or Meltwater is a plus)
Experience supporting senior leaders or executives in high-visibility environments
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt voice and tone across audiences and executives
Excellent taste and judgment for social, with hands-on fluency across platforms and formats
Comfort operating in real time and making thoughtful decisions in public-facing contexts
Strong judgment around audience, timing, and tone, especially on complex or sensitive topics
A proactive, detail-oriented operator who can work independently while partnering closely across teams
