Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our Workload Management Team, leading our Kubernetes ecosystem initiatives. In this role, you will work closely with the Platform Engineering, AI, and Software Engineering teams, leading a group of engineers responsible for integrating a next-generation hardware accelerator into Kubernetes environments, validating the K8s integration, and supporting DevOps initiatives.
This is a people-focused leadership role, not a hands-on engineering position. However, a strong background in software engineering and cloud-native technologies is essential to effectively guide the team, understand technical challenges, and collaborate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders.
Previous line-management experience is required.
The Platform Engineering team at Graphcore
ThePlatform Engineering teambuildsGraphcore products into large-scale AI solutions for our customers and qualifies them for production usage. The Workload Management Team plays a key role in this effort. It enables efficient, reliable, and scalable execution of AI workloads by integrating new accelerator hardware with Kubernetes and the wider cloud-native ecosystem. The team ensures that compute resources are scheduled, utilised effectively across complex environments, while supporting reliability, and operational best practices.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Line management of engineers. This includes day-to-day support, regular reviews, mentoring and career development.
- Lead by example in positive, constructive and pragmatic approaches to problem solving.
- Responsibility for the delivery of Workload Management Ecosystem initiatives and associated deliverables.
- Taking ownership of quality assurance for K8s integration.
- Tracking and reporting on the progress of the work to the broader Platform team and other stakeholders.
- Collaborating with internal customers and stakeholders in the wider Graphcore business to understand their needs and the technical integration pain points.
- Helping to establish best practice within the Workload ManagementEcosystem team and support the engineers in delivering against it.
Skills and Experience [ALL REQUIRED]
- At least 6 years’ experience in line management, with a background in software engineering.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes and cloud native technologies.
- Proven problem-solving ability demonstrated through complex, real-world challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a passion for high-quality engineering and the ability to motivate teams in a fast-changing industry.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience working with senior stakeholders.
- Evidence of mentoring junior engineers, leading teams or deliveries, and owning large, complex work items.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
- Experience defining, scoping, estimating, and planning work in an Agile environment, including managing priorities, risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, GitHub, or similar tools.
Desirable but not required:
- Experience or good understanding of AI or Machine-Learning workloads, their networking requirements.
- Experience working in an engineering team supporting the development of hardware products.
