About the role
We are seeking a new member of our Central Policy team. This role will be instrumental in developing and maintaining our policy positions, strategies, and associated collateral that strengthen Anthropic's policy influence in Washington and beyond. The Central Policy team sits at the operational heart of Anthropic's policy function—distinct from government relations and communications, but essential to enabling both. We focus on building the systems, resources, and scalable programs that empower our broader policy team to succeed. You'll work closely with our federal, state, and international affairs, national security, policy communications, and research teams.
The ideal candidate is a builder and executor who gets energy from making complex things clear and organized, and takes pride in the quality of what they produce. You have strong instincts, you're hungry to get your hands dirty, and you don't wait to be told what to do. You're someone who can dive deep into technical details, manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, and maintain a bird's-eye view of how everything connects.
Examples of work in this role might include getting to consensus on an emerging technical issue and producing a crisp one-page reference document; designing and running a process that takes novel research findings and turns them into collateral that supports local public affairs goals; or managing the day-to-day operations of a signature policy research program.
Anthropic is equal parts research lab, policy think-tank, and technology startup. We care deeply about safe development of AI systems and build partnerships with governments through proactive, opinionated, substantive policy conversations. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of AI policy, playing a central role in building the infrastructure that amplifies our policy presence and influence in D.C. and beyond.
Role Summary:
-
Develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of policy collateral (position papers, FAQs, leave behinds, talking points) that distills complex policy positions into clear, accessible formats
-
Run consensus-building processes that move Anthropic from policy perspectives to clear, documented positions and strategies
-
Build knowledge management and databases that make Anthropic's policy work scalable, coordinated, and accessible to internal teams
In this role, you will:
-
Draft and maintain a comprehensive set of internal and external policy collateral including one-page position summaries, technical FAQs, factsheets, talking points, and other written materials that tracks versions, intended audiences, use cases, strategic relevance, and access
-
Execute processes to build and maintain organizational consensus on technical policy positions, working with subject matter experts across federal affairs, state affairs, national security, and international affairs to synthesize viewpoints and refine language
-
Partner with federal, state, and international affairs teams to develop and execute bespoke public affairs strategies
-
Anticipate emerging policy issues and proactively work with internal experts to develop Anthropic's perspective and supporting materials before external pressure emerges
-
Work closely with our policy communications team to coordinate messaging across internal and external materials and ensure consistency in Anthropic's policy brand and voice
You may be a good fit if you:
-
Have 5+ years of professional experience in corporate public affairs, management consulting, or similar environments setting and delivering on cross-functional strategy with demonstrated success bridging the gap between policy analysis and outcomes
-
Are an excellent writer who can synthesize complex technical material into clear, concise language tailored to different audiences
-
Have a demonstrated interest or background in visual communication — whether through data visualization, graphic design, marketing, or simply a track record of making written materials more compelling and accessible through thoughtful formatting and presentation
-
Are a policy generalist with strong policy fluency or demonstrated interest in tech policy and experience conducting policy research and developing policy proposals
-
Have demonstrated experience driving cross-functional projects and building consensus in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
-
Excel at managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills and time management
-
Can work independently, take ownership of problems, and proactively anticipate needs
-
Are scrappy and hard-working, but also humble, genuinely collaborative, and a strong team player
-
Are passionate about AI policy and align with Anthropic's safety mission and commitment to responsible AI development
-
Hold at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field
