About Subsense
Subsense is a deep-tech company developing the world’s first non-surgical, bidirectional brain-computer interface powered by plasmonic and magnetoelectric nanoparticles. Our mission is to unlock direct communication between the human brain and AI - starting with medical applications such as stroke recovery and moving toward cognitive enhancement for healthy users. Headquartered in Palo Alto, Subsense brings together leading scientists and engineers to redefine the future of human–machine interaction.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a
Junior Data Scientist to support data analysis, signal processing, and scientific insight generation across our neurotechnology R&D programs. You will work closely with senior scientists and engineers on real, messy biological and experimental datasets, helping transform raw signals into interpretable results and reusable analysis workflows. This role is ideal for an early-career data scientist with strong quantitative fundamentals who wants hands-on exposure to scientific data, production-adjacent Python code, and real experimental systems — with mentorship, structure, and room to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze biological time-series and experimental data, including basic preprocessing, filtering, artifact detection, and feature extraction
- Support signal analysis and exploratory modeling efforts under the guidance of senior technical staff
- Build and maintain Python-based data analysis scripts and lightweight pipelines for research and visualization
- Refactor exploratory analysis (e.g., notebooks) into reusable, well-documented functions and modules
- Generate clear visualizations and summaries to support scientific interpretation and internal decision-making
- Collaborate closely with senior individual contributors to improve data quality, analysis rigor, and code reliability
- Document assumptions, methods, and results to ensure reproducibility and knowledge transfer
- The balance between analysis, modeling, and tooling may evolve as projects progress and as your skills develop
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Physics, or a related quantitative field
- Solid Python skills and experience using scientific and data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib)
- Hands-on experience analyzing numerical or time-series data through coursework, research, internships, or prior roles
- Comfort working with real, imperfect data and iterating toward clear, interpretable results
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative coding workflows
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and respect for data integrity and confidentiality
- Ability to learn quickly, take feedback, and improve solutions with guidance from senior team members
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage research environment
- Location: Palo Alto, CA
