Founding / Applied AI Engineer
A well-funded early-stage technology company is seeking a Founding Applied AI Engineer to lead the development of production-grade AI agents. This is a high-impact role combining hands-on technical execution with strategic ownership, ideal for someone excited about building cutting-edge agent systems from the ground up.
The engineer in this role will own core agent development, infrastructure and orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and data pipelines. You’ll join a small, highly capable engineering team and play a foundational role in shaping both the product and the technical culture.
What You’ll Do
- Build, maintain, and scale infrastructure capable of handling high volumes of LLM-powered queries with strong accuracy and performance
- Develop and fine-tune AI agents using a combination of code, prompt engineering, and model selection
- Design and integrate backend systems that connect to complex, large-scale data sources
- Experiment with and evaluate new models, tools, and techniques to continuously improve agent quality and capabilities
- Own major product and engineering initiatives end to end, with clear accountability for outcomes
- Collaborate closely with engineers and cross-functional partners to help shape the team and company culture
- Tech stack: Python, Typescript, NodeJS, AWS, React
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience building with LLMs and deploying AI agents into production environments
- Deep interest in the evolving AI landscape, including prompt engineering and model evaluation
- A high-ownership, founder-minded approach to work with comfort operating in ambiguity
- Ability to independently solve complex technical problems through prototyping, debugging, and experimentation
- Experience building scalable software systems in fast-moving environments
- Early stage start up experience
What’s Offered
- $200,000-250,000 + equity
