Position Overview:
As a Data Engineer, you'll serve as the technical backbone for our $100M+ bedding and mattress business, building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers business decisions across our organization. This role requires a hands-on technical professional with strong SQL and Power BI expertise who can extract, transform, and manage large data files from various e-commerce marketplaces, internal Excel spreadsheets, and operational systems. You'll design efficient data pipelines, create impactful dashboards and reports, and ensure data accuracy across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
Data Pipeline & Infrastructure Development:
- Build and maintain automated data pipelines that extract, transform, and load data from multiple e-commerce platforms (Amazon Seller Central, Shopify, direct website) into centralized reporting systems
- Write advanced SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources including marketplace APIs, internal databases, and operational systems
- Design and implement data validation processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across all data sources
- Manage and optimize data storage solutions, including Excel-based data files and database structures, for performance and scalability
- Support future ERP integration initiatives (NetSuite) as the company's data infrastructure evolves
Power BI Dashboard & Reporting Development:
- Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards that provide real-time visibility into business performance metrics
- Create automated reporting frameworks that track KPIs across sales channels, inventory, operations, and marketing effectiveness
- Develop DAX formulas and data models within Power BI to enable complex calculations and dynamic visualizations
- Transform raw data into clear, actionable visualizations that communicate insights to stakeholders across all business functions
- Maintain and improve existing Excel-based reporting while transitioning critical reports to Power BI platform
Data Management & Quality Assurance:
- Establish and maintain data governance standards to ensure data integrity across 6,000+ SKUs and multiple sales channels
- Perform data cleansing, deduplication, and standardization across disparate data sources
- Monitor data pipelines for errors and proactively troubleshoot issues before they impact business operations
- Document data processes, workflows, and system architectures for team knowledge sharing
- Identify opportunities to automate manual data processes and improve operational efficiency
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Training:
- Partner with analytics, forecasting, and business intelligence team members to understand data requirements and deliver technical solutions
- Assist in training other team members on how to leverage data tools, query databases, and interpret reports
- Translate technical data concepts into business-friendly language for non-technical stakeholders
- Support ad-hoc data requests and special projects requiring data extraction, transformation, or analysis
- Collaborate across departments to ensure data consistency and support data-driven decision-making
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical field – Equivalent combination of education and demonstrated technical skills will be considered
- 2-4 years of experience working with SQL, Power BI, and large datasets in a professional or academic setting – strong skills are prioritized over years of experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with data from multiple e-commerce platforms and integrate disparate data sources
- Strong understanding of e-commerce and retail data structures, including sales transactions, inventory data, and marketplace reporting
- Track record of building reports, dashboards, or data solutions that solved real business problems
- Self-motivated learner with proven ability to quickly master new systems, programs, and technical tools
Technical Skills – Must Have:
- Advanced SQL proficiency including complex queries, joins, subqueries, aggregations, CTEs, window functions, and performance optimization for large datasets
- Power BI expertise for dashboard creation, data visualization, DAX formula development, data modeling, and automated report generation
- Expert-level Excel skills including advanced formulas (VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, array formulas), pivot tables, Power Query, and macro development for data automation
- Strong understanding of data structures, database design principles, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
- Ability to work with APIs and data feeds from e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Shopify, etc.)
- Experience managing and processing large data files (100K+ rows) while maintaining performance and accuracy
Note: Applicants may be asked to complete a technical assessment on SQL, Power BI, and Excel skills during the on-site interview process.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite is a plus)
- Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages for data automation
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms or data warehousing concepts
- Experience with version control systems (Git)

Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary: $70,000 to $90,000 (based on experience and demonstrated skills)
