Head of User Love (Pro-Shopper & Consumer Researcher) Part shopper, part user researcher and part community builder. 100% user obsessed.
Full-time or Contract, Remote or NYC, $80K-$120K + Equity
ContextWe're building Nora, the personal shopping retriever loyal only to you.
Online shopping gave us infinite choice but zero tools to manage it. So people improvise with 47 browser tabs, screenshots flooding their camera roll, and links texted to themselves. They're drowning in options, missing price drops, and spending hours on research that leads nowhere.
Nora changes everything. Your personal shopping assistant that captures what you browse, what you buy, tracks prices, finds alternatives, verifies reviews, and soon will even negotiate deals on your behalf. All while keeping your data private and eventually earning you money.
Why this matters: We're shifting power back to consumers. For the first time, shoppers will have an AI assistant as sophisticated as what billion-dollar companies use. When you ask "Should I buy this?" Nora actually knows your style, budget, and what you've been considering.
Where we are: Just raised $750K from Betaworks & angels. Small team moving fast. Building something people desperately need. We need someone to build a tight community of early shoppers who will shape Nora with us. Not focus groups or surveys, but real people using Nora daily, telling us what's broken, what's magical, and what to build next.
See What is Nora? for more info.
The Real JobYou'll be the bridge between shoppers who are drowning in browser tabs and the product that saves them.
This isn't about managing a Slack community or sending surveys. You'll be:
- Finding our first 500 true believers
- Turning their shopping chaos into product clarity
- Sitting in design reviews saying "users would never do that"
- Running quick experiments that shape what we build next
- Building a movement, not just a user base
Your success = shoppers saying "How did I live without this?"
What You'll Actually Do Day-to-DayHunt Down Our People- Find shoppers with 50+ browser tabs (they're our people)
- Reach them wherever they are: Reddit, TikTok, shopping forums, IRL events
- Turn skeptics into believers with genuine conversations
- Build relationships, not email lists
Run Real Experiments- "Hey, would you use this?" quick tests over coffee or Zoom
- Watch people actually shop with Nora (the good, bad, and confused)
- Test wild ideas before we build them
- Kill bad features before they waste engineering time
Shape Product Directly- Join our 3x/week product syncs as a core voice
- Translate "I hate when websites do that thing" into actionable features
- Work directly with our designer and engineers (no PM layer)
- Own the user perspective but think like a builder
Build Our Early Community- Create the first Nora power-user group (think 100 engaged > 10K passive)
- Run feedback sessions that people actually want to join
- Make our users feel heard, not surveyed
- Turn insights into momentum
You're Our Person If...You've Done This Before (In Some Form)- Built communities from scratch
- Passionate, deep understanding, and embedded into this space
- Run user research that actually changed products
You Think Like This- "Let me talk to 5 users before we build that"
- "The data says X but users are actually doing Y"
- "What if we tested it this way instead?"
- "I found our users hanging out in this random forum"
You Work Like This- Comfortable with ambiguity (we're figuring it out together)
- Can go from user call to product spec in the same day
- Actually enjoy talking to strangers about their problems
- Write clearly and think systematically
- Move fast but stay organized
What We're Not Looking For- Traditional "community managers" who just moderate and post
- People who want strict PM processes and JIRA tickets
- Researchers who take 6 weeks to deliver insights
- Anyone who says "that's not my job"
