Senior Research / AI / ML Engineer
San Francisco, CA (in office 5 days a week)
$180K-$220K + equity + full benefits
My client is an early stage research and engineering team focused on advancing model training and applied artificial intelligence. The founding group includes engineers and scientists from leading research labs and high growth startups, now building the next generation of reasoning and learning systems.
They are hiring multiple senior engineers to help design, train, and deploy large scale models. The position blends hands on technical work with startup style autonomy. You will build and improve training infrastructure, optimize model performance, and contribute to research efforts while shipping production ready Python and PyTorch code.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize training systems for real world use cases
- Contribute to research and experimentation in AI and ML
- Ship reliable, high performance code used in production
- Collaborate with a small, world class team of engineers and researchers
- Translate ambiguous goals into clear technical milestones
Requirements
- Strong experience with model training beyond API level usage
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch or similar frameworks
- 2 to 5 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent depth
- Excellent communication and self direction
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and fast moving environments
Nice to have
- Prior founder or early stage experience
- Exposure to distributed training or model optimization
- Background in computational research or scientific data
