As a Software Engineer (Python) at Torch.AI, you will be at the forefront of building software that scales across Torch.AI’s platform capabilities. Your software will be deployed across an array of operational and research & development efforts for mission-critical customer programs and projects.

You’ll work autonomously while driving coordinated, collaborative decisions across cross-functional teams comprised of defense and national security experts, veterans, business leaders, and experienced software engineers. Your code will advance back-end data orchestration and graph-compute capabilities to deliver elegant data and intelligence products. You’ll have the opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of projects and tasks, from designing and demonstrating early capabilities and prototypes to deploying large-scale mission systems.

You’ll contribute directly to Torch.AI’s continued position as a market leader for data infrastructure AI and compete against multi-billion-dollar incumbents and high-tech AI companies.

Responsibilities

Design and implement Python-based backend services using frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
Participate in sprint planning, documentation (e.g., Confluence), and ongoing maintenance of production-grade systems.
Use version control (GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, and scripting to support software delivery and environment management.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to enhance automation, observability, and service resilience.
Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot services in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and optionally support high-side environments (e.g., C2S, AC2SP).
Work with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Neo4j) to manage and transform structured and semi-structured data.
Support data integration and flow management across platforms using tools like Apache NiFi.
Develop and integrate RESTful APIs, handling structured data formats (e.g., JSON, Parquet, Avro).

What We Value

B.S. degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or a relevant field.
4–7 years of software engineering experience, with significant Python expertise.
Solid experience with REST APIs, service-oriented architectures, and cloud-native deployments.
Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and services such as S3, EC2, or Lambda.
Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD workflows, and SDLC best practices.
Comfort with Unix-based tools, scripting, and general system operations.
Industry experience, preferably within the defense industry and/or intelligence community or related sectors, a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
Awareness of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices.
Strong drive for improving software quality, security, and performance.
Ability to propose innovative solutions and optimizations based on application metrics and technical insights.
Experience with NiFi, Kafka, or Airflow in data integration or workflow orchestration (not required, nice to have).
Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Kibana), test automation (e.g., Selenium), or performance diagnostics (not required, nice to have).
Understanding of IAM/security fundamentals, or experience working in secure environments (not required, nice to have).
Exposure to Spark, time-series analysis, or data science pipelines (not required, nice to have).

Security Clearance

A Department of Defense Secret Clearance is required on Day 1, and higher clearances are accepted.
