Role Overview

We’re looking for an AI/ML Engineer to join our team, where you’ll build the next generation of tools for developing, evaluating, and training state-of-the-art AI systems. You will be at the heart of our applied AI efforts, focusing on critical challenges in Large Language Model (LLM) evaluation, AI agent evaluation, and AI agent evaluation and training. You will leverage your expertise in both machine learning and software engineering to create robust systems and intuitive interfaces. As a product-minded engineer, you will work directly with stakeholders to design, build, and deploy technical solutions from conception to production, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in building and understanding advanced AI. You’ll innovate and push technological boundaries to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our customers, helping them create frontier AI models that can work with multi-modal data.

Your Impact

Advance AI Development: Design and implement novel evaluation frameworks and interactive tools for large language models and AI agents, using various data modalities including text, images, audio, and video.
Build tooling for evaluating and training AI Agents: Research and develop methodologies to evaluate and train specialized AI agents, creating robust systems for human-in-the-loop feedback and reinforcement learning.
Create Intuitive Interfaces: Utilize your full-stack skills to build sophisticated user interfaces in React that allow researchers and engineers to understand, debug, and improve complex AI models.
Solve Ambiguous Challenges: Tackle complex and ambiguous technical problems at the frontier of AI, architecting and implementing practical, scalable solutions.
Drive Product Innovation: Collaborate with a cross-functional team of forward-deployed engineers and fellow engineers to create, test, and iterate on the tools our customers use to build cutting-edge AI.
Ensure System Reliability: Help maintain the health of our production systems by participating in on-call rotations to monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
Elevate the Team: Proactively contribute to improving our engineering practices, development processes, and technical documentation.
Share your knowledge by writing and reviewing technical documentation, such as blog posts and white papers, to help the team and future developers.

What You Bring

2+ years of experience in a software or machine learning engineering role, with a demonstrated focus on applied AI.
Strong programming skills in Python and Typescript, and experience with common ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
Proven experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including techniques for fine-tuning, evaluation, and prompting.
Familiarity with full-stack development, including 2+ years of experience using frontend frameworks like React/Redux to build responsive and interactive applications.
Experience with backend systems and technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, and GraphQL. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure like GCP (GCS, PubSub) and containerization (Kubernetes) is a plus.
A proactive, product-focused mindset and a high degree of ownership, with a passion for building solutions that empower users.
Comfort and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, agile environment where rapid problem-solving is key.
A focus on writing clean, well-tested code and delivering your work on time.

Bonus Points

Experience building tools for AI/ML applications, particularly for model evaluation, monitoring, or data annotation.
Knowledge of Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) or other preference-tuning techniques.
Familiarity with AI agent architectures and frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex).
Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques.

Labelbox strives to ensure pay parity across the organization and discuss compensation transparently. The expected annual base salary range for United States-based candidates is below. This range is not inclusive of any potential equity packages or additional benefits. Exact compensation varies based on a variety of factors, including skills and competencies, experience, and geographical location.
